WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF

Springfield Youth Baseball and Softball League

Springfield Township Youth Baseball Softball (STYBS) was started in 1959. The first games were played at Gibson Field, which was located on Airport highway next to where Chitter Chatter Ice Cream is today. At that time about sixty 8 to 14 year old boys participated in recreational baseball. Numerous local merchants and organizations were sponsors of these early teams. In 1968, the league moved over to Club 16 on King Road. The new facility had 2 ball diamonds. The larger diamond offered a chance for the boys and girls to play night games under the lights.

In 1978 volunteers from the area got together and built a new facility on Angola road called Community Homecoming Park. We are improving the park every year. We have 4 lighted and fenced-in ball diamonds for baseball and softball. The league offers a full concession stand where most of the players and parents enjoy their evening dinners during the season. We have added a 3-lane batting cage with pitching machines for both the boys and girls. There is a playground for the younger children to play on and a stocked pond for fishing. We have six soccer fields in front of the park that are used in the early spring and fall. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

Today we offer baseball and softball for kids 5 to 14 years of age, and annually we have over 600 kids participating in the league. Our season runs from mid May to early August. Our program is made possible by a great group of men and women who volunteer countless hours, with the support of Springfield Township officials and local merchants, which makes our league second to none.

Coach Pitch for Boys and Girls Ages 5 & 6
Coach Pitch is for boys and girls ages 5 & 6 (as of 1/1 for girls and 5/1 for boys) who want to learn the basics of throwing, hitting and fielding. In addition, have a lot of fun. The baseball is a softer ball than in the older levels. In this division the coach pitches to the players then after several pitches the player is able to hit off of a tee. In Coach Pitch players also learn how to run the bases and what the positions on the field are called. By parent option a player that is in this division for one season may be "moved up" to the next division (7 & 8) year old boys/girls with the approval of the boys or girls commissioner. Rosters normally are composed of between 10 - 12 players. All players bat and play the field. The games are maxed at 1 hour in length and both teams bat 2 times. Practices are held once per week (coaches discretion), with most games occurring on week days. The season generally comprises of approximately 10 games and no standings or scores are kept.
